He is remembered for the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the War on Poverty, creating the Department of Housing and Urban Development and for passing the Voting Rights Act of 1965. He presided during the deepening U.S. involvement in Vietnam. He was born in Texas in 1908 and died in Texas on January 22nd, 1973.
