Apollo 11 was launched on July 16th, 1969, carrying astronauts Neil A. Armstrong, Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr. and Michael Collins. The spacecraft landed in the Mare Tranquillitatis at 3:17 PM CDT on July 20th. At 9:56 PM Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon, issuing the now famous phrase "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".
