To convert these files back to PC/MAC format use 'MakeDoc' with option '-d' or a similar application. You can automate this by using batchfiles. 'MakeDocW' for Win95 you can get from: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Mark_Pierce 'MakeDoc7' for DOS you can get from: ftp://ftp.wustl.edu/systems/mac/amug/files/pilot/pc/makedoc7.zip ftp://ftp.uniroma2.it/%7bB/amug/files/pilot/pc/makedoc7.zip ftp://ftp.mgt.uea.ac.uk/Newton_Archive/ftp.amug.org-pilot/pc/makedoc7.zip ftp://ftp.livewire.com.au/pub/amug/files/pilot/pc/makedoc7.zip ftp://ftp.fh-mannheim.de/pub/software/pilot/makedoc7.zip ftp://ftp.amug.org/pub/amug/bbs-in-a-box/files/pilot/pc/makedoc7.zip possible batchfile 'doc2txt.bat' to convert DOC->txt (call with: doc2txt yourfile): makedoc7 -d c:\pilot\yourname\backup\%1.pdb %1.txt Some tips: - use big fieldwidths (default 160) and the monospaced font to win survey when editing sourcecodes, no broken lines will annoy you - use fieldwidth 160 when reading/writing textfiles - fieldwidth-, fontsize-, textunderline-, editable- settings and edit position are stored automatically, individual for every file you work on - you cannot mark text upwards or sidewards over the textfields bounds - if you have renamed two files to the same name you can only load the first file of both, load this file rename it and you have access to both files again - compression is a time killing job, in some cases it could last up to 18 seconds, a progress bar will appear - saving is done automatically when changing or leaving a file, you can manually save a file by 'Menu/Commands/Save' - QED only performs compression if text was changed - use 'Menu/Options/Doc Prefs/Backup' for forcing a file to be backed up or not at next hotsync, to avoid already backed up files to be saved at every hotsync (timeconsuming) switch it off, any changing of text sets the backup flag - if editable is checked you can edit DOC's, navigation is done with navigation buttons if editable is not checked you cannot edit DOC's, to navigate tap on upper/lower half of screen or use navigation buttons - you can also use hardware up/down buttons on your Palm to navigate through DOC's - when fscroll switch in options is set a full text screen is scrolled, if not set a text screen minus one line is scrolled - 'Menu/Edit/Scan Book' searches for tag based bookmarks, they are identified by 'bookmark chars' like '°' or '**', the next max. 15 characters are used as bookmark - 'Menu/Options/BookChars' lets you change these 'BookChars', the standard is '°' - if you edit your text, bookmarks will shift from their abolute stored positions, after performing menu 'Menu/Edit/Scan Book' again, all tag based bookmarks will be updated without adding them again to the bookmark list Bugs & effects: Up to now I've worked several hundred hours on QED, but for sure it is not bugfree. So don't hesitate to send me your bugreports. Lost or scrambled texts and dreams, I do not hope QED will produce, I cannot bring back for you. A 'good bad' example for this was version 1.0T, it 'killed' AportisDoc and many Pilot fans were unhappy. So use this software at your own risk. Although this text and some parts of QED's source are written with itself. - If using fieldwidths greater than 400 on DOC's without linefeeds texts may be displayed not correct - For speed reasons the scrollbar is positioned on the absoulute character scroll position, this might cause a 'non proportional' behaviour on short documents or fieldwidths greater than 160 pixels Warning: - do not install older versions of QED after installing versions >= 1.32 - Running QED on Emulator causes warnings when using the monospaced font. QED's 'non fullsize requesters' also produces warnings when running on Emulator in color device mode. Good luck Kurt
