1999.10.15 (week 120)
Life As Art
Life As Art
It's one of those lifey-artsy weeks when I can accept my
artist-self. Isn't living art what the costume thing is
about? Celebrate the mysteries of the spiritual existence
this week with haunted stuff everywhere; like the Haunted
Elevated Train Ride or Graceland Cemetery Tour. Navy Pier
is haunted and so are an assortment of houses. Eeek! even
our city center is bedecked with symbols of the dark side.
Pumpkin carving I've always said is one of the great home
art opportunities of the year. Art film overload wraps up
soon and there's lively art in all the galleries. Good stuff
opens at the MCA and AIC, and Blue Man Group has its 1000th
show here! The art of dance is at its professional best
with Native American Spirit, the Joffrey and others! Art
lifers are coming from other states for the Wholelife
Exposition and there's an Artist Formerly Known as Prince
night. Musical artists live this week include Pavement,
Richard Marx, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Scorpions,
Carl Cox, Cirrus, Ramsey Lewis Trio and Steve Cole, George
Clinton and P-Funk. The DJs are in force with Dave
Chamberlain, Omar Santana, Gil Burns, Pulz-8. Jesse
DeLaPena, Craze, Infamous, Danny The Wild Child, DeepSky and
Christopher Robin, Presyce and more! There's also a new Space
Ghost, Bosses Day, Sweetest Day, Alaska Day, Walk for Hope,
AND A BROCKOUT!!! Keep on living la vida artista!
