2000.05.05 (week 149)
Push The Limits
Push The Limits
Do that extra chin-up! Keep driving even though you're on E!
Blade that extra mile, it won't kill you. And there'll be
plenty of buddies around to call the Paramedics at the major
Friday group skate downtown, or the challenging South and
North trips on Wednesday and Thursday. Blader-wise, this
week also brings top champion skaters to the United Center
on Saturday, and a presentation of blading tours/camp by
Zephyr on Sunday. Don't blade? How about some absolutely
psycho music from limit pushers Insane Clown Posse, Danzig,
Kiss, and my current fave, Kittie. Not for the squeamish.
Or Psycho-ist of all, the long awaited Psychosis2000 rave
and pre-party. Crazy heavy electronic dance vibe from three
stages for all ages until dawn! This party'll be off-the
hook, in Chicago, and CHEAP! If you've never done a rave,
but been interested, PUSH YOUR LIMITS and come out
Drinking limits will be pushed Friday as Cinco De Mayo gets
a Cuervo sponsored BLOCK PARTY downtown, and all over town
drinkers will also be enjoying Iron Chef and the Upright
Citizens Brigade Chaos marathon! It's First Friday at the
MCA, and they're trying something new. Limit ignoring Laurie
Anderson will be there, and an East/West integrating DJ
team. Unsure? maybe the MCA's workshop on making lanterns is
more your speed. 42UP is still at MusicBox, as is Spike and
Mike's Sick and Twisted Animation festival. Intimidated?
See some Silver Images instead. It's Saturday though that
has really out-done itself. Starting with the city's
volunteer driven Clean and Green Day which brings the Mayor
to Senn Park, the massive outdoor sculpture show opening at
the Pier, an anarchist Book fair, Variety Show, and Film
Fest, thousands of dogs and their masters jogging at
Montrose, the beautiful Kids and Kites Fest at MSI, and many
brave committed people pushing the limits to bring about
change at the Millennium Marijuana March from Federal Plaza
downtown. It was comedy limit pushers like the Legends of
the Catskills that paved the way for the cutting edge humor
of Futurama, King-O-Hill, and the Simpsons. Other full
throttle fun this week includes Dylan & Facs playing rough
at Seminar, The The, Fabulous Janes, Seventh Heaven, Burn
The Floor international pro dance show, Frances Parker
School Jazz Ensemble Under The Picasso, Goth and glam at The
Mutiny, Diagonal drum&bass at SmartBar and the LAN Party
MEGA-EVENT. So as Harry Truman did, as did the soldiers
on V-E day, push your limits HARD, and maybe push someone
else's as well ;)
