Visit the John G. Shedd Aquarium (312/939-2438, 1200 South Lake Shore Drive). Named after John Graves Shedd, a former Marshall Field chairman, who in 1924 gave $2,000,000 to build what is now one of the largest aquariums in the world. In 1991 the new Oceanarium opened, nearly doubling the exhibit space and bringing whales to Chicago.
