Information
TVLink Set Top Box
TVLink is a small electronic TV set top box with a remote
control and optional cordless keyboard. The TVLink plugs
into the TV antenna input jack on the TV set. Then a telephone line is
plugged into the TVLink box. Now it's ready to go to work with an
infrared remote controller in command of all activities.
It's that simple!
TVLink transforms the ordinary TV set and telephone line into a
two-way interactive multimedia communications system that can access and
send data in a way that only expensive computers could do in the past.
The TVLink set top box calls a TVLink server. The server
provides access to multimedia content, email, and connection to the World
Wide Web. A user can then access it all on their television set, with no
confusing operating system or configuration. "Point and click"
with a TVLink remote controller is as simple as changing a TV
channel. All the information to and from the server is transmitted over a
regular (twisted pair) telephone line; the most common communication link
for most households and businesses throughout the world!
The TVLink server does the following:
* Provides interactive multimedia content.
* Provides database services.
* Provides email service.
* Provides World Wide Web browsing service.
* Formats image files for optimal display.
* Provides local HTML content.
* Provides modem service.
* Provides connection to corporate mainframe.
* Handles user accounting.
The TVLink set top box does the following:
* Receives, decodes and displays on the television screen
image, text and audio information sent from the server.
* Receive commands or data entry from the remote control
or keyboard and sends this data to the server.
Once the box has established the communication with the TVLink
server center the box id number is identified by the center to guarantee
access to valid users only and to prevent fraudulent use of the box. From
that point on, the center is actually providing the information to the box
while tracking a full audit of all actions taken by users.
