World Naked Bike Ride Chicago (since 2004).
Protesting oil dependency and promoting positive body image.
Though the message could have been made clearer, and water stops would have been nice, this event was one of the most amazing things I've ever been a part of, and that says a lot. With dozens of city's participating worldwide, Chicago may have set the attendance record at over 200! The great majority were nearly naked (thongs and body paint) and several dozen (mostly male) were entirely nude. Four inline skaters also joined, and there were a number of radical show bikes. There were several arrests en-route on debatable grounds, but overall police simply helped control traffic. Lights at most intersections were ignored, and we simply dominated the crossings. The ride was slow paced and reasonably safe, and the (unplanned) route covered over twenty miles including prime areas such as the Gold Coast, Rush Street, Michigan Avenue, and even Lake Shore Drive. Applause by onlookers was at times thunderous, and camera phones countless.
