F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Competition Regionals at UIC Pavilion.
Dozens of corporate sponsored College and High School engineering teams compete in a sport-like contest, changed each year, with only six weeks to prepare. Multiple challenges include autonomous operation, targeting, vision, more. Presented since 1992 by F.I.R.S.T. ("For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology"), a non-profit organization. This seeding ground for future engineers changes the lives of everyone it touches, and engenders massive family and peer support and enthusiasm. Over 50 teams compete for two days in this region alone, leading to finals in Atlanta. Editor's single favorite event of the year (this was my fifth time), better than pro baseball and football put together.
